I think one of the most noticeable signs of growing up or getting older is when daylight savings time suddenly becomes one of the most anticipated days of the year. I've been looking forward to March 14 for a while because of the Concert For Life, but I must admit I'm almost just as anxious to move our clocks ahead one hour - giving us longer days and more sunlight. As a kid - and even when I was in college - that day was nothing more than an inconvenience - a day that robbed us of an hour of sleep. But as a working adult, who has felt the depressing tug of leaving work night after night during the winter months when it's pitch black outside, I now see daylight savings time as a beacon of hope. Ever over the past few weeks, as the big day approaches, the days have been getting longer. I now leave work to twilight instead of total darkness. And it's amazing how it affects my mood. It also helps that it's only 30-40 degrees outside instead of 10-20.
So, three cheers for setting our clocks ahead one hour! (Side note: June 21 has also become one of my least favorite days - the date when days start getting shorter .... I'm kind of obsessed).
Anyways ...
I was down in Gurnee last night for a CFL rehearsal with Mike, Chad and Chris (bass, guitar and drums). As usual, Mike brought a bunch of musical toys to play during various songs. I think you can expect to hear the vibraphone during one or two songs, as well as some synthetic strings during a hopefully more comical part of the afternoon. I think we sounded pretty good for not having played together since last year's CFL! It's been 12 months since we've played as a group and it felt great to be playing again.
Katie came down to Gurnee with me to shoot some videos for a CFL video she's putting together. More information on that later ...
Alright. It's Saturday morning and I have a lot to do. So I'm out. Hope to see you next weekend! |
