One of the perks of my job is constantly meeting wonderful people, people who not only excel at their craft but who go the extra mile to make our world a better place. Such a person is Matt Wessel, coordinator of public relations for the Milwaukee Bucks.

When Wessel isn't making life easier for those in the media covering the Bucks, he's trying to save lives. An accomplished pianist and song writer, Wessel has been the main performer for the annual Concert For Life, a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.

Wessel, whose father died from brain cancer about seven years ago, staged his first concert in 2001 and raised $6,000. The next year, he raised $8,000. In the subsequent four years, the totals were $12,000, $16,000, $20,000 and $24,000 Sunday, at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Gurnee, Ill., Wessel held another Concert For Life. He raised a whopping $34,000. Thus, in the last seven years, the 26-year-old Wessel has helped raise nearly $150,000 for the ACS.

Wessel, a 2003 graduate of Marquette University, has released six CDs. You can check out his inspirational music at his Web site: www.mattwesselmusic.com
