lyrics
(to both recorded and un-recorded songs)
Born a child in ’23.  Forced a man at age 13.
His mother down, his father gone, he helps his family carry on.

Excelsior!

Sweeping floors at morning’s dawn while other kids have yet to yawn.
He helps the wheels of life to turn and lands the right to stay and learn.

Excelsior!

Stocking shelves both tall and wide, that’s when he meets his future bride.
With beating heart and nervous grip, a muffled prayer escapes his lips:

Excelsior!

And near the water’s edge he finds a peaceful place that slows down time.
A humble place beside the wind; a place where innocence begins.

Excelsior!

Emotions never he did hide the day his precious sunflower dies.
And though her battle was not won, he grabs his kids and carries on.

Excelsior!

Though his years begin to grow, he journeys on, but never slow.
And when he sees through his own eyes the product of his life, he cries:

Excelsior!

80 years he’s walked this land, never longing for a hand.
Giving always what he knows.  Teaching everywhere he goes.

Excelsior!
