recording log: be with me
(recorded from january 10, 2003 to march 15, 2003)
march 15, 2003 ... "Be With Me" has arrived and will be available for purchase on March 21, 2003.

march 2, 2003 ... Added "Be With Me" and "Beautiful Day" to the site for download.

february 22, 2003 ... Larry and I mixed all of the songs this morning/afternoon.  From 10:00am to 2:30pm we sat at the computer and made stuff sound even better.  We added reverb to a bunch of songs, compressed them all, and fixed a few pitch problems.  Now I just have to send the CD out on Monday!!  Recording is done!  This CD had better be here by March 21.  Keep checking back for song postings.

february 22, 2003 ... Tonight was a marathon.  Recorded a new version of "Innocence" (less bass levels).  Recorded the vocals to "Song of Gathering", "Be With Me" (Beth did a great job with the solo on this one), "The Will of God", "Live, Jesus, Live", and "We Are Bread, We Are Body".  They all sound great.  We also got a good take of the "Beaufitul Day" background vocals in.  Total time at the church: 6 hours.

february 21, 2003 ... Tonight we recorded the main vocal track for "Beautiful Day" and the piano and vocal tracks for "May the Lord" (which, by the way, turned out AWESOME).  Jeff, Nick, and myself were unable to get a good take of the "Beautiful Day" background vocals in...there's always tomorrow.

february 14, 2003 ... This afternoon I went in around 3pm and laid down "Kate's Song" and touched-up "Innocence" (took some of the reverb and echo out).  I also added bass to the three songs we recorded last night.  That was all fairly simple.  The big task of the day was laying down "Beautiful Day".  No pun in tended, but it turned out beautifully.  Mike was awesome with the drums.  I added bass to it as well.  This means that all of the instrumental tracks have been laid down!  Now it's on to vocals...  That will be next Thursday and Friday.  Then Larry and I will spend that Saturday doing all of the mixing.  Fun times...

february 13, 2003 ... Tonight we recorded "The Will of God", "Be With Me", "Song of Gathering", and "Wedding Day" using violin, flute, drums, piano and guitar.  Dan (my roommate) even convinced me to let him play the "shaker" (like one of those egg things; only bigger) on "Song of Gathering".  It sounded awesome!  Needless to say, I'm very pleased with the way tonight's recording session went.  Tomorrow I'm going to be adding bass to these songs (except "Wedding Day" of course) as well as laying down some instrumental tracks.  Should be fun!  Thanks to Dan, Mike, Jason, Molly, and Kelly for all coming down to Gurnee tonight to do the recording.  And it only took 2 hours!!

february 11, 2003 ...
Added "Take, Lord" to my music library.  People can now download the song.  Let me know what you think!  I'm not going to put all of the songs from the CD on the site before the CD actually comes out.  However, I will put a few up to keep you guys busy until the album comes out!

february 7, 2003 ... Finalized the drum part for "Beautiful Day" -- should be easy to do come recording time.  Recorded "Take, Lord".  15 students came down from Marquette for the recording.  It went great!  The sound was incredible.  We had a slight moment of panic when our "awesome" take proved to have some distortion near the end (coming from the mics).  But we quickly did another take and it turned out to be just as awesome as the one before.  I can't wait for you guys to hear this song!  I'll put it on the site as soon as Larry finishes mixing it.

january 31, 2003 ...
Pre-recorded "Song of Gathering"; practiced with Amy, Beth, Ben, and Mike.  I plan on having my brothers, Ben and Mike, play on "Song of Gathering".  Ben plays the trumpet and Mike plays the drums.  I love using my sisters (Amy, Beth, Kim) and my mom as singers, and I wanted to include Ben and Mike.  Hopefully they'll be able to learn their parts.  If they don't learn them perfectly, I'm still going to use them because I think it'd be awesome for them to be on one of my CDs.  But if they're really struggling, I'll just have someone else play... : )  Working with my sisters on their vocals was encouraging.  I can't wait to hear the final version of "Live, Jesus, Live" and "Be With Me".  Those are going to sounds awesome.

january 24, 2003 ...
Today I simply pre-recorded "We Are Bread, We Are Body", "Live, Jesus, Live", and "Take, Lord".  By "pre-recorded", I mean to say that I laid down the piano and bass track -- now I just need to add the other live instruments and voices

january 10, 2003 ... Recorded "You're Out! Ode to the Umpire"; placed on website for download
